Training will resume next Sunday at 10:00. A few people have asked me why training for U13s has moved to Sunday from Monday. Last year both U13 and U15 squad numbers were small enough to accommodate both (in the nets) at the same time, but our initial projection suggests this would not be possible to do safely for this season. I am also hoping that I can put together better prepared and more engaging sessions on a Sunday, rather than dashing back from work on a Monday evening and just putting the boys in the nets as a simple option.
I may still do some work with smaller groups during the week by invitation. This might be focussed on less experienced players to build their basic skills, or with the more experienced to focus on more advanced aspects of the game.
You will all shortly receive an email to invite you to register with the new club website. Please consider doing this, as it will represent the best way for you to stay up to date with what is happening at the club.
As part of our fundraising drive, we are looking for ball sponsorship this year for junior matches (£20). As part of doing this, I would propose some copy in the match report on the website and a photo with the team. Let me know if you are interested in helping out with this.
Some people have asked about kit. We won’t be doing a bulk order this season (it caused more problems than it solved!) so I would recommend that you order yourself via http://www.allroundercricket.com/teamwear/cricket-teamwear/s/southport-and-birkdale. I should say that there is a chance that we will review our arrangement with Allrounder during the winter and look at alternatives, so if you can stretch another season out of the S&B branded kit my advice would be to do so. If anyone does have any kit in good condition that doesn’t fit anymore, please consider bringing it to training and we can set up a kit swap. This applies to bats, pads, gloves, thigh guards and helmets as well.
