Our Under 13 cricket team, moved into the final of the Halliwell Trophy last night with a 25 run win against Fleetwood Hesketh at Sea Cop.
Having won the toss and electing to bat, S&B were soon in trouble as both openers fell with only 6 runs on the board.
Charlie Gillbanks and Thomas Crew settled things down with a partnership of 15 and then Crew and Ethan Howard pushed on with a further partnership of 17 to set a platform for the lower order to build on.
Charlie Scott, Jamie Brown and Henry Eccles marshalled the score to 73; a respectable score given the start, but not one of the team’s best batting displays of the season.
In the field, S&B were soon in the wickets with Thomas Crew (2) and Ethan Howard (1) striking in their opening two-over spells.
With some tight fielding, further wickets were shared around as Matthew Hennessy, Henry Eccles, Charles Atwell and Tom Selby all having success.
Despite some spirited hitting from Fleetwood Hesketh at the end, they could only get to 48 from their 20 overs and players, umpires and parents all quickly sought refuge from the chilly breeze.
S&B now go on to meet Rainford in the final, provisionally to be held on July 5th at a venue to be confirmed.
Both S&B and Rainford are unbeaten in 2017, so this cup final, followed by what could be a last day, winner takes all meeting in the league on the 13th, will be literally season defining for both teams.
