Bowdon 1st team too strong for S & B

Having won their clash with top of the league Warrington the 1st team travelled to Cheshire to take on Bowdon, the league’s second placed team hoping to repeat the victory.
On arrival it was obvious that, from the Bowdon line team’s line up, we were in for a tough challenge.
First up for S & B on Bowdon’s superb new court was our number 3, Matty Sherman, to face the highly skilled and experienced Peter Billson.
At the same time number five, Dave Porter, was taking on Bowdon’s Matt Lowery. Playing as well as he has all season Dave took the first two games 11 – 7 / 11 – 8. Game 3 didn’t go so well for S & B’s player going down 11 – 2. The match now had a 3 -2 score line written all over it. So it proved, the fourth and fifth games going to Bowdon.
Score 7 – 11 / 8 – 11/ 11 – 2 / 11- 7 / 11 – 4.
Meanwhile, Pete Billson proved to be too good for Matty Sherman with a comfortable 3 – 0
win. Score 11 – 7 / 11 – 3 / 11 – 5.
The next two players for S & B were Danny Massaro at two against the up and coming 17year old, Nick Wall on the show court, with Arron Ken playing Jacob Robinson at four.
Danny’s match was a very hard fought affair with Nick Wall taking the first two games 11 – 6 / 12 – 10. Massaro then drew level to take the match to a deciding fifth game. Younger legs and lungs took the game and match. Score 11 – 6 / 12 – 10 / 10 – 12 / 6 – 11 / 11 – 5
Arron Ken’s match against Jacob Robinson threatened to boil over at times with the home marker giving Arron nothing on a number of occasions when a let was the least he could expect. Despite playing really well he couldn’t get the better of the Bowdon number four. Score 11 – 8 / 11 – 7 / 11 – 4.
The final match of the fixture was between Adam Murrills (world ranked 85) and Emyr Evans (131). What a high quality battle this was, with Murrills taking the first game 11 – 8.
Emyr has a reputation in the NWCSL 1st Division for giving all the number 1’s a run for their money. The next three games showed that the difference in ranking means nothing with our Number one winning them, really quite comfortably. Score 11 – 8 / 4 -11 / 6 – 11 / 5 -11.

Match score Bowdon won 4 -1 Points Score 18 - 7
